Arista this week announced a lineup of switches that illustrate networking’s major role in AI—and Arista’s growing ambitions to lead in this space.

“The modern AI era doesn’t just need more bandwidth. It requires a fundamentally different kind of network,” said Prateek Mali, Senior Product Manager at Arista, in a video about the release. “AI and networking are intrinsically linked, and a high-performance network is the essential building block that AI demands.”

The Arista 7060XE7 Series is designed to create this new kind of AI network. It breaks with Arista’s pattern of standalone switches with new rackscale models loaded with features specifically aimed at improving the performance of massively parallel, distributed GPU clusters.

Arista is not only positioning this series for scale out, or cluster-to-cluster connectivity; the vendor is acknowledging its entry into scale-up, intra-rack networking, competing directly with NVIDIA’s NVLink.
