The latest quarter saw the ramping of interest and activity in generative artificial intelligence (AI), which as the name implies generates text, images, sound, and other kinds of output from natural language queries. Startups such as OpenAI and Anthropic, with help from the major cloud hyperscalers (Microsoft for OpenAI, AWS and Google for Anthropic), have scored billions in funding to improve their foundation models and ready them for corporate use.
